Fast, frequent and sustainable travel to all our stations
Our five stations in Surrey's HillsToDowns.online territory have been served by electric passenger trains between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour since July 1937. Advances in power supply, rolling stock design and on-train technology have helped to raise the sustainability standards – and comfort levels – of 21st century trains to new highs.
Normal weekday service levels on the line see up to four trains an hour in both directions. All trains stop at Haslemere, but at least one train an hour calls at Farncombe, Godalming, Milford and Witley. Service frequencies are slightly reduced at weekends.
As with any heavily used railway line, closures for essential maintenance are necessary from time to time. To avoid any inconvenience, always check before you travel.
FROM LONDON
Leaving London Waterloo, most Portsmouth-bound services take the Down Fast to their first stop at Woking. They then branch off the South Western main line towards Guildford. After passing through Chalk Tunnel, just south of Guildford, it's into the HillsToDowns.online area at Farncombe. If you are not travelling all the way to Haslemere, be sure that your train is calling at the intermediate station you want.
FROM THE COAST
Leaving Portsmouth Harbour, fast trains call at Portsmouth & Southsea, Havant, Petersfield and Haslemere, while stopping services call variously at smaller stations in between.
FROM THE EAST
Take westbound trains from Brighton and change at Havant for services to the HillsToDowns.online area. Alternatively, take trains from Redhill and Gatwick Airport towards Reading, and change to the Portsmouth line at Guildford.
FROM THE WEST
Take London-bound South Western services from Weymouth, Bournemouth, Southampton, Winchester, Exeter or Basingstoke and change at Woking for services towards Portsmouth. Take London-bound Great Western Services from Penzance, Cardiff and Bristol to Reading. Then take Redhill/Gatwick services to Guildford and change to southbound services.
